After walking out of the sanctuaries, you can walk into the ancient city of Dion, named after the god. Because Dion was a sacred place for the Macedonians, it was natural that a city would be developed nearby. In Hellenistic times, it was famed for its fortifications and monuments. Its urban plan was laid out according to the Hippodamean grid system. Its epicenter was always near the south entrance, which led to the sanctuaries.
