the population of Dion commonly used marble, porous limestone, conglomerate stone and slate for architecture, sculpture and making of utensils. These materials were mostly extracted from the foothills of Mt. Olympus and the Macedonian quarries. Marble for making sculptures, architectural elements and mosaid floors was imported from many parts of the ancient world, mainly from southern Greece and Thassos.
