This is Countess Markievicz's cell. She was originally sentenced to death for her heavy involvement in the Easter Rising, but had her sentence commuted to life because of her gender. When she learned of the news, she said, "I do wish your lot had the decency to shoot me." She was released in 1917 and given amnesty, but remained active in politics. She was arrested several more times, but never stopped fighting for Ireland. When she died in 1927, over 250,000 people lined the streets for her funeral.
